Silver Friends CNY Carnival

PROJECT CO-DIRECTOR & VOLUNTEER TEAM MANAGER (2017)

Silver Friends Chinese New Year Carnival (11th Feb 2017) is jointly organised by the Central Singapore Community Development Council, People’s Association, Leng Kee CCMC, Team Young NTUC Volunteers, SMU Rotaract Club and NTUC Health Silverace Senior Activity Centres.

We reached out to a total of 170 senior citizens from Lengkok, Bukit Merah, Redhill, Telok Blangah and Whampoa, and engaged 96 youth volunteers. Besides wonderful performances by p.L.a.Y!, Lengkok SAC, Bukit Merah SAC, and Lengkok CC, the feeling of nostalgia was in the air as we relived the Professions in early Singapore with specially designed carnival game booths and fashion parade featuring Majie, Samsui Woman, Pawnbroker, Orang Laut, Getai Performer, Kachang Puteh Man, Satayman, and Mata-Mata!

BICENTENNIAL WALKING WORKSHOP

CURATOR, RESEARCHER & TOUR GUIDE (2019)

To commemorate the Singapore Bicentennial, the Singapore Heritage Society (SHS) conducted a four-part walking workshop series developed based on SHS’s two-year research project on 21 historic places of worship in Telok Ayer, Tanjong Pagar and Tanjong Malang. This project was supported by the National Integration Council, National Heritage Board, Our SG Fund, and Singapore Bicentennial Committee.

Participants were guided by SHS researchers, Lynn Wong and Fauzy Ismail, to places of worship to understand how custodians of these sites view their history, their needs, as well as the challenges for sustaining their communities.

This was followed by a discussion workshop facilitated by Dr Chua Ai Lin, Executive Director of SHS, introducing concepts relevant to the theme and group discussion by the participants.
